3.19.11 Beastly

Movie: Beastly
Opened: March 4th
Stars: Alex Pettyfer, Vanessa Hudgens, Mary-Kate Olsen, Neil Patrick Harris
Director: Daniel Barnz

I have been trying to convince people to come see this movie with me since it came out. My friend Kimberly was the lucky person who decided to take the risk and let me tell you, it did not pay off.

Now I would like to start off saying that I knew this movie looked ridiculous and that is why I wanted to see it. Also as soon as I saw Mary-Kate Olsen in the trailer that was a great indication of what the movie would be, let's just say it was no Passport to Paris.

The kid from I Am Four, another blah talkie, stars as the beast and claims he can only be around beautiful people, or something like that. His father is a huge influence on this idea as he uses the terms "no fattypattys" and keeps insisting that only beautiful people make it in this world. Of course this rubs off on I Am Four and he treats everyone like crap. This pisses MK off who is apparently a high school witch and ends up turning I Am Four into a "beast". I think we know the rest of the movie, he stalks Vanessa Hudgens and manages to make her live with him. She then proceeds to fall in love with him- end of the movie.

My random thoughts:

First of all Neil Patrick Harris is the best thing about this movie. He manages to make the most corny lines laughable and has a snappy wardrobe. Also, has crossed eyes when he is blind but at the end when he gets his sight back they are normal.

I love the fact that Vanessa Hudgens is suppose to be the weird girl, she is too cute to be the weird girl. But I guess listening to the Kinks and eating juicyfruits makes you weird in Beastly.

MK's acting is so...strange? Her character just pops up in random black outfits, walking out of a church? What? My favorite part is when I Am Four is turning back into his "beautiful" self and she appears randomly with a black top hat on. I don't know.

Gosh for $4.75 and a cherry coke in my hand it was totally worth every penny. I think I laughed, along with the audience, the entire movie.

July 2009: The Ugly Truth

Ugh, yes I saw this movie and it was terrible. Over the summer of 2009 I was taking classes at OSU and working, somehow I managed to have Fridays off. So usually I would take myself out to the movies and not enjoy the sunshine outside. I’ll never forget this day because on my way to the theater I got into a wreck. A guy ran a stop sign and smashed into my car, he only had a learners permit and it was a huge annoying ordeal. Anyway, after everything was sorted I still went to this damn movie. Why? My friend Tim still insists that someone was punishing me for going to see this movie and that I can’t disagree with.
